Early Life

Mava Moayyed was born on 24 June to Iranian parents in Nelson, South Island of New Zealand. She is a Baháʼí.

Her family left Iran because their faith made them targets of religious persecution and settled in Nelson, where they had her. She has a master’s degree in journalism.

Career

Moayyed has over a decade of experience in the field. She worked as a reporter on the award-winning current affairs TVNZ show Sunday in 2022. She has written features and made short documentaries at Radio New Zealand.

TVNZ reporter Moayyed is passionate about covering justice, health, and education. She bagged the Bruce Jesson Emerging Journalism Prize. She also received the prestigious Peter M. Acland Foundation Journalism Fellowship in 2020.

Mava was a reporter on the current affairs show Sunday before she joined the In-Depth team.

Personal Life

Mava Moayyed married TVNZ presenter Jack Tame in a low-key ceremony in 2023. The couple celebrated their love in an intimate wedding at Waiheke Island’s Mudbrick vineyard in 2024.

Mava wore a white off-the-shoulder gown featuring a structured bodice and long veil. Her husband, Tame, wore a tuxedo with a bow tie and boutonniere. Many Kiwi stars, including Sunday reporter Miriama Kamo, were present to witness the event.

Jack surprised Mava with two 1-year-old alpacas (S’more and Fudge). They had driven up from the Waikato, spent four days acclimatising, and come to their wedding.

Before they married, the duo dated for more than a year. They attended TVNZ’s Christmas party as Anchorman’s Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone in 2022.

TVNZ reporter Mava Moayyed has a 6-year-old son, Rumi.
